Greetings!
It was another successful year for the
Leadership Kansas Program. In October, the
Program graduated its 29th Class. It was a very
competitive year to gain entry into the Program. With almost 550
persons nominated, and 123 Applications submitted, the
Selection Committee had their hands full selecting 40
persons from this large group of well-qualified
applicants.
As a result of the hard work of our sponsoring
entity - the Kansas Chamber, the Board of Trustees, the
State and Local Program Chairs, and the tremendous
support of the Leadership Kansas Alumni, the Class
enjoyed a life-changing experience that will benefit
each and every one of them in unique and lasting
ways. | |

2007 Program
Re-Cap
As anyone who has served as the State
Program Chair could attest to, there is an enormous
amount of work that is required to organize the Program
in any given year.
The work for the 2007 Program was begun by State
Program Chair Alan Fankhauser
('92) but completed by Barbara
Carswell ('01), who stepped in for Alan in April
when a career opportunity relocated him out of state.
She did a wonderful job carrying on the good work that
Alan started.
This year's Class began their Leadership
Kansas experience in Lawrence for their two-day
Orientation.
After spending an afternoon getting to know each
other, they were officially presented to the alum during
the evening Alumni Reception.
Per-usual, the Class members were exposed
to a variety of people and places that the average
Kansan does not have access. They traveled to
Garden City, Hutchinson, Wichita, Kansas City Metro
area, Colby, Chanute, Pittsburg, and
Topeka.
This was an extremely engaged class, and
other than the bad luck they seemed to bring to almost
every community they visited, it was an outstanding
experience for all involved.
The Class
will be well-represented on the Board of Trustees by Hannes
Zacharias, and by Todd Johnson
on the Alumni Advisory
Committee. |

2008 Program
The process of cobbling together the 2008
Program has begun in earnest. The Board is proud to
announce that the State Program Chair for 2008 is Brad
Stratton ('03). He recently
convened several alumni from across the state for a Visioning
Committee meeting where several "timely" topics were
considered for inclusion as part of next year's
Program.
Next task for Brad will be the selection of Local
Session locations and dates.

2008 Leadership Summit & Alumni
Reunion
Please mark your calendar for May 2,
2008. That
is the date of our 5th
Annual Leadership Summit & Alumni Reunion. The event will
be held in Wichita at the Hotel at Old Town Conference
Center. The
Chairperson of this year's event is Kim Scanlon
('03), who is already hard at work on behalf of the
alumni organizing her committee.
Look for materials about the 2008 Summit
to be mailed to you in late March. As you may or
may not be aware, this event is the ONLY fundraising
event we hold each year for the Program and your support
and attendance would be greatly
appreciated.
For those that have never attended our
annual alumni event, I would urge you to consider
participating this year. The event was
created to accomplish three objectives: 1) re-connect
alumni to the Program by staging what is essentially
a "mini-Local Session" with an afternoon of interesting
and timely topics and impressive presenters; 2) create
an advantageous networking opportunity for alumni
and the current Class; and 3) raise much-needed
funds for the Program to keep our tuition the lowest
of any statewide leadership Program in the
country. |

in a variety of leadership positions within the Program,
including a two-year stint as State Program
