Leadership Kansas Class Visits Colby and
Goodland July 29-31
TOPEKA, KAN. (July 28, 2009) – The Colby/Goodland
area will host the 2009 Leadership Kansas class on
July 29-31. The 40 members of the class will begin
their training session with a dinner and
presentation by Marcie Penner, the author of The
Kansas Guide for Explorers, in Colby on
Wednesday evening.
The
session will continue in Colby on Thursday with a
tour of Frahm Farmland, Inc., which will include
presentations on agriculture and water conservation
in Kansas. The class will travel to Goodland to
visit the Colby/Goodland Regional Medical Center for
presentations on pioneering cancer treatment and
rural healthcare. The class will also attend a
presentation on meteorology at Weather Service, and
the Prairie Museum of Art and History.
Over the course of the six-month regional meetings,
the class will engage in discussions with top
experts on the key issues facing Kansas. While in
the Colby/Goodland area, many topics will be
covered, including: agriculture, health care, local
government, natural resources, art, and community
investment.
The
Colby/Goodland area is the third of six communities
to host the 2009 Leadership Kansas class. Other
locations include Garden City, the Kansas City Metro
area, the Wichita Metro area, Pittsburg/Chanute and
Lawrence/Topeka.
Leadership Kansas is one of the oldest and most
prestigious statewide leadership programs in the
country. Established by former Governor Robert
Bennett and Gary Sherrer, and supported and
administered by the Kansas Chamber, the program is
celebrating its 31st year of educating
and motivating Kansas leaders from all four corners
of the state. The Leadership Kansas program remains
committed to its original mission to inspire persons
to maintain involvement in the social, business and
political fabric of our Kansas communities.
