Leadership Kansas Class Visits the Kansas
City Metro Area August 26-28
TOPEKA, KAN. (August 20, 2009) – The Kansas City
Metro will play host to the 2009 Leadership Kansas
class on August 26-28. The 40 members of the
class will begin their training session on
Wednesday with tour of the Burlington Northern
Santa Fe Engineering Instructional Facility,
followed by dinner at the Nerman Museum of
Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community
College featuring a presentation by CEO of Blue
Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City Tom Bowser.
The session will continue on Thursday morning at
the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, the
Kansas City Board of Trade, and the University of
Kansas Cancer Center. The class will also visit
the Kansas Speedway and Fort Leavenworth for
additional presentations and topic discussions.
Over the course of the six-month regional
meetings, the class engages in discussions with
top experts on the key issues facing Kansas.
While in the Kansas City area, a wide variety of
topics will be covered, including: agriculture,
health care, philanthropy, local government,
current economic conditions, public housing, and
homeland security.
The Kansas City Metro is the fourth of six
communities to host the 2009 Leadership Kansas
class. Other locations include Garden City,
Colby/Goodland, the Wichita Metro area,
Pittsburg/Chanute and Lawrence/Topeka.
Leadership Kansas is one of the oldest and most
prestigious statewide leadership programs in the
country. Established by former Governor Robert
Bennett and Gary Sherrer, and supported and
administered by the Kansas Chamber, the program is
celebrating its 31st year of educating
and motivating Kansas leaders from all four
corners of the state. The Leadership Kansas
program remains committed to its original mission
to inspire persons to maintain involvement in the
social, business and political fabric of our
Kansas communities.
