TOPEKA, KAN. (August 20, 2009) – The Kansas City Metro will play host to the 2009 Leadership Kansas class on August 26-28.  The 40 members of the class will begin their training session on Wednesday with tour of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Engineering Instructional Facility, followed by dinner at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community College featuring a presentation by CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City Tom Bowser.

The session will continue on Thursday morning at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, the Kansas City Board of Trade, and the University of Kansas Cancer Center.  The class will also visit the Kansas Speedway and Fort Leavenworth for additional presentations and topic discussions.

Over the course of the six-month regional meetings, the class engages in discussions with top experts on the key issues facing Kansas.  While in the Kansas City area, a wide variety of topics will be covered, including: agriculture, health care, philanthropy, local government, current economic conditions, public housing, and homeland security.

The Kansas City Metro is the fourth of six communities to host the 2009 Leadership Kansas class.  Other locations include Garden City, Colby/Goodland, the Wichita Metro area, Pittsburg/Chanute and Lawrence/Topeka.
